I hate being so weak!

I hate being so weak!

I hate being so weak!  It’s the exact opposite of everything I want to be.  I want to always be strong, confident, and yes, I’d love to be better looking; however, the fact is, I’m weak and at every turn, desperately needing Jesus.  Though everything in our culture looks down on the weak and powerless, people who are unimpressive, the truth is we’re all much, much weaker than we may realize.  The funny thing is that we’re all in the weakness boat: we are all too weak to save ourselves or even hope to make the Christian life work for us at all!

Christianity is based on the assumption of human weakness

The fact is that Christianity is based on the fundamental assumption of human weakness.  The idea that somehow, I can be good enough or obedient enough to get God to bless me, is a religious fantasy.  No, the truth is that my very best goodness only lasts for a fleeting moment or two and then I am bad again.  And according to the Bible, one disobedience to God’s Law makes me guilty of all of the Law, and I’m doomed.  And so, religion’s lie that you can be good enough to get anything from God is simply a delusion.  I am weak.  I am not strong enough to be obedient enough to get anything from God.

Jesus came to earth to be strong on our behalf

The good news is that Jesus knows our weakness—our complete inability to be good enough to save ourselves or make the Christian life work.  So, Jesus came to earth and was obedient enough for us, and when we believe in Him, he freely credits his strength, his goodness and obedience to our accounts.

My friends, Christianity is based on the fundamental assumption of our weakness and that Jesus came to be strong for us.  Then apply his strength to every weak place in our lives.  So, stop trying to be strong, admit your desperate need for Jesus.  In your weakness, let Jesus rub his strength all over your life so that you become strong in Him.  That, is some of the true brilliance of Christianity—I am weak, He is strong, and I never, ever, ever, ever, want to ‘grow’ past that fundamental truth!

2 Corinthians 12:9, “But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me.”

Philippians 4:13, “I can do all things through him who strengthens me.”
